Things to think about: Why does a certain group here in IML feel the need to tell us how to live our lives? Why is it you are not allowed to print your opinions on your own web-site or what you or others say on a chat group. Why should you be politically correct on you views or not have any at all as it might not be the likings of another person in the development if you speak them? Why is it if you serve as a volunteer to the community you should not have the first amendment right?

I am sure there are some people right now upset about the words I have written. If so then don't read them. Don't join the chat group if free speech hurts or offends you. Some people on the chat group and who visit this site are the very ones I have the biggest arguments with but I respect them for their views and commentary. That is what a democracy is about. I enjoy the back and forth and some place in the middle is probably where the truth and best ideas are found.

Then there are the others who would rather stifle communications and have you hear and see just what they want. To do just what they want. Well what do you call that? Dictatorship, communism, it was practiced by the Nazis and is still practiced in many other areas such as the Middle East, North Korea and China today, is this the model we want to follow for our community?

Rule #7 of Article XIV – Parking rules states: For the purpose of this regulation, the definition of “commercial Vehicle” is any vehicle registered as a commercial vehicle or displaying commercial license plate or weighing over 9,000 LBS. Pickup trucks and vans normally used by the general public for personal transportation are exempt from this regulation provided:

A. The vehicle has no attachments in the rear except for a cap or toolbox.

B. The vehicle does not contain refuse or unsightly, noxious, odoriferous, spontaneously combustible, or inflammable materials.

First off, this is Pennsylvania, last time I looked and we do not have a commercial license plate or registration! Second is the 9,000 LBS the actual vehicle weight or gross vehicle weight? Then there is (A), the Vehicle Nazi's feel a person who may want a utility bed (Reading body) shouldn't have their vehicle in IML because THEY don't like it, THEY don't think it's attractive enough for their taste it not a every day vehicle. Did they take a survey of the membership? What about our working members who needs these vehicles for their employment? It is their everyday to work vehicle. Also, about no attachments in the rear, does this mean that you can't have a towing hitch on it, after all a towing package is an attachment, it is not always standard option. How come a light duty dump truck with a gross vehicle hauling weight of 12,000 LBS. is banned but a GM 6500 TopKick with a pickup bed with a 24,000 LBS GVWR would be allowed under our current rules?

Rule #9 Construction vehicles may be kept overnight during a period of work on property upon proper notification to IMLCA Security Department or by posting of an IMLCA construction permit. WHAT'S UP WITH THIS?? We allow contractors to leave everything from semis to bulldozers in here on an almost continuous basis but we fine a resident member for having a pickup with an alternative bed, what's wrong with this picture? It's a shame that we think more of the contractors than we do of our own members. If we allow these huge honking vehicles like well drillers, bulldozers, backhoes and tri-axle dump trucks in here 24/7 all year long except for a few weeks during the spring thaw then what is the problem with member John Smith having a utility body pickup?

We right good rules: Motor Vehicle Rules

1. No driver will operate a vehicle in a careless disregard for safety of persons or property in IML. “Damn I thought when I came into the development I could disobey line 5 and and ignore traffic signs and disobey line 7 and drive on lawns and run people over thank goodness that was spelled out for me. Thank goodness for lines 1,5,7”

2. Rule #11. What do they have against mopeds and scooters? These are licensed road ready motor vehicles under state law. I guess the Vehicle/Aesthetic Nazis don't like these type of vehicles either. Did they ask the members of the development and did they by majority came back and said we don't want no stinking scooters and mopeds? Also why can other developments allow the use of recreational vehicles like golf carts, snowmobiles and ATV's? Why do these Anal Vehicle/Aesthetics Nazi's have a problem with these vehicles? Again did they poll the membership recently and did it come back we don't want people using a electric golf cart to go to the lake to go swimming?

We right good rules: Firearms/Weapons

2. Carrying a loaded firearm or bow, including without limitation, pistol, rifle, machine gun, BB-gun, blowgun, shotgun, flintlock or muzzle loading black powder weapon, or any device capable of propelling a projectile of any kind, within the confines of IML is strictly prohibited. “Here is a good one! Sounds good right? But we here in the development use the “propelling a projectile” as a way to get $500 from parents whose kids had those Nerf-style missile shooters, the kids toy where you pump up the toy and it shoots a rocket in the air, falling under the above rule. Both times I had been at the meeting when these came up to the BOD and of course they wanted the money.” Persons having a Federal or State government Permit to carry concealed weapons, must register with security.“ No you don't that is a violation of both Federal and State law.”

Makes good sense to protect our under 18 residents from sharp pointy things. “ Plus your teenager can't take a pocket knife with him to the lake when they go fishing or any cutting agent without being accompanied by an adult. So they also can't have a pair of weed trimmers and trim around the flowers if you are not standing over them. Plus you don't want to know what the penalty is if we catch them running with scissors.”

We right good rules: Public Order and Decency

No Solicitation is permitted in IML Community. To become a Board of Director you need to obtain signatures of members is that not solicitation? Is a scout collecting can food for Thanksgiving a rule breaker and subject to violating our solicitation rule or a school team selling candy to buy equipment? “ Enough said here, we now know how well this was written!” I know what the goal was but it never made it to ink.

1. Persons are prohibited from engaging in any act or undertaking which unreasonably disturbs or harasses or alarms any member within the IML community. “ If you can figure this out for me, write.”

4. Any person who creates any condition (loud, boisterous activity, excessive volume, etc.) shall be guilty of public nuisance when such activity interferes with another person's right to peace, or is capable of interfering with another person's right to peace.

5. Any person who erects, sets up, establishes, maintains, keeps or continues, or causes to be erected, set-up, established, maintained, kept or continued, any condition (loud, boisterous activity, excessive volume, etc.) shall be guilty of a “Public Nuisance” when such activity interferes with another person's right to peace and quiet, or is capable of interfering with another person's right to peace and quiet. The following definitions and exceptions apply:

   A. Noise is a “Public Nuisance” if it continues and/or is incessant for a period of ten (10) minutes to the disturbance of any person at any time of the day or night regardless of whether the noise is emanating in, from or upon private property or a vehicle on IMLCA roadways or amenities.

   B. Noise is a 'Public Nuisance' if it is intermittent for one-half (½) hour or more to the disturbance of any person at any time of the day or night regardless of whether the noise is emanating in, from or upon private property or a vehicle on IMLCA roadways or amenities.

SAY WHAT?? Does this mean that a resident can call and complain if the neighbors are mowing their lawn when she doesn't want them to or the kids are having fun and laughing loudly for 10 minutes continuously or ½ hour off and on? Can you use this rule to inhibit construction work near your home? A lot of different interpretations, don't you think?

Environmental Rules

Rule #3 I and several other people have read the covenants and there is no provision that we can see prohibiting docks or piers It does claim that the lake floors belong to the development. What happened between the seller (IML FOUNDERS) they could have paid them X amount for the docks. The covenants does not say no docks allowed. There is in the Rules and Regulations Booklet. But 1994 and back you could with permission from IMLCA. I don't know what year it got changed in the Rules yet.

On a different subject here's one for the Aesthetics Nazis to chew on. In the covenants it states that no satellite dish for television reception and no outside clothes lines for drying clothes shall be erected, maintained, or used on the premises unless permission in writing is given by the Seller, its successors or assigns. Are they going to go after all the Dish TV subscribers and those people who are trying to be conserve energy by drying their clothes outside?

We write good rules: Motor Vehicles

(Revised) All vehicles stored or parked or kept anywhere within a lot, including within any structure thereat shall be registered to, and insured by the owner/occupant for personal use only, excluding registered overnight guests. No vehicle shall at any time be in a state of disassembly, disrepair, or the process of being stripped or dismantled, for not more than a period of seven (7) consecutive days.

So I scratch my head on this one. They claim they are not going to go on your property but how are they going to know that the vehicle has a valid registration and insurance including within a structure. Does this mean we must open our sheds or garages for inspection by the party's police? Are they going to have surprise inspections on you? Open the garage we hear that your car is torn apart because you are putting in an after market stereo system. Why is your car on jacks and where is the missing tire? What else are they going to do? Will they also want in your house? Maybe to check or confiscate you computer and documents just to make sure you are following the party line?

I thought this might be particularly interesting to some of you. It is from the CAI (Community Association Institute) which IML is a member of.

The Seven Deadly Sins of Enforcement

1. Regulating the personal lives of residents.

2. Giving in to political pressure.

3. Going to extremes.

4. Imposing harsh consequences for small infractions.

5. Failing to make exceptions in exceptional circumstances.

6. Acting on anonymous, unverified, or unsubstantiated complaints.

7. Failing to be flexible, creative, and reasonable.

Gee do any of these sound like us? Maybe the vehicle/aesthetic Nazis should form their own Development/Association/ Concentration Camp. Where they can run things as they like. A place that has no freedom of speech. No elections, no rights, nothing changes and your told what to think. Just broken submissive drones like in North Korea. Following blindly as your leaders tell you to drink that Kool-Aid. But IML is not that kind of a place. We are a family oriented, working class community. We believe in the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Most of us believe in Life, Liberty and the pursuit of happiness and we intend to remain so.

ARTICLE XV – HEALTH AND SANITATION RULES RULE #4

No outside fires are permitted, except for a grill for the purpose of cooking. The entire burning surface of any grill must be a minimum of 6 inches above the ground surface, and contained in a fireproof enclosure. A water supply must be available within 25 feet of the cooking fire. Pit/in-ground, barrel or surface burning on any member's IML property at anytime at anytime for any purpose is prohibited. All cooking fires must be supervised by an adult who is an individual 18 years or older, who in not under the influence of drugs or alcohol or suffering from any other disability which would impair his or her ability to properly supervise a fire.

This is a good one! What is a members IML property? Once again do the Vehicle/Aesthetic Nazis own my house and property now? Can they come on and in my house as they please? What is individual 18 years or older? No Siamese Twins I guess? Does this mean that the IML SS will show up while members cook and give us the CSI test to make sure you are not on drugs or alcohol? What are the limits? What drugs will be tested for? Is it zero tolerance on the alcohol? Plus here we are attacking people with disabilities. You have Parkinson's disease or you are on crutches etc. you can't have a barbecue? You can see this group is into Genetic Purity!

Why can't we put up a eight foot stockade fence in the back ward? What is the problem with giving a parent the piece of mind of allowing their children a safe place to play with out the worry of stray dogs or a yard full of deer droppings. We allow pools and I know if I had a pool in my backyard I would want to make it that children would not be able to get easy access to it. Plus with the defoliage from the ice storm and deer a good fence can keep good neighbors. Look around people IML is not the a small wooden vacation place that we want to keep looking natural. That died years ago.
