My Latest Board Meeting Summary
April 18th, 2009
We started the meeting today with only 5 Board members. As some of you know Jennifer Hoke and Dan Reilly recently resigned leaving 4 openings (Areas 1, 2, 4, & 6) on the Board. We sent out letters to the membership last month and received 5 responses, one of which withdrew prior to meeting with the Board, 2 never should up to be interviewed and the 2 who did were vying for the Area 2-At Large position. They were Mike Gillen and Sal Santangelo. Mike Gillen won the vote and accepted the seat. However, at the end of the meeting another Board member, Susan LeBeau announced that she was resigning, she represented Area 8 and it was decided that since Sal was from Area 8 and had already expressed interest he was appointed to succeed her. Leaving us with 6 members on the Board. We are going to miss Susan, she fought hard for getting things accomplished with Lake Management for the amenities and we will miss her Tex-Mex and cookies very much. Unfortunately due to the economic downturn and her working in real estate she cannot commit the time to the Association.
In the President's report we learned that Maureen is resigning from the Social Committee, the Rules and Regulations Committee and her position in the office. She will be sorely missed in all the capacities in which she served. I personally feel that this is a devastating loss to the Association. No matter what was going right or wrong she was always upbeat in the office and out, also under her leadership the Social Committee really shined. So we will be looking to fill a vacancy in the office.
With Mike Gillen now serving as a Board member we needed to appoint a new Chairperson for Arbitration. The Board chose a “blond, blue-eyed, Angelo-Saxon bitch” (Peggy Yencho)to replace him as Chair and moved the “other bitch in the back room”(Miriel Byron) from an Alternate to a Permanent member of the committee as per Mike's recommendation. By the way, Mike's first comment as a Board member was that he is going to make J&L's life a living hell.
Another resignation on the committee front was Bob Armstrong from Disaster Action. So we are looking for someone to take over that position as well.
PPL is planning to build a substation in the area of Top of the World. There was an open house meeting last week in Brodheadsville and we will be announcing a meeting with PPL here in the development in the near future to discuss their plans.
We are well underway with our spring cleaning. Today was the opening day of trout season and don't forget there is a live bait machine by the basketball court. We are going to get the tennis courts repaired. This has been put off for the last couple of years but it was decided to set aside monies to be sure it gets done this year. We got several bids and the one that offers the most for the least is a total of $16,500.00. The recreation area at Clubhouse Drive is open (formerly known as the Bone Yard). The field is available for dog walking (on leash only) and for other activities. We are looking at doing some maintenance down at Watauga. Possibly expanding parking and creating/clearing a path from the lake to the recreation area. We are looking at getting a vending machine for the patio area for use by those enjoying the Main Lake and Clubhouse amenities. As of now I am still Vice President and acting Secretary, so if anyone wants to get me something for Secretary's Day feel free. We also decided to change Board policy as of this morning our workshops will be open to members. Another important order of business was choosing the Nominating Committee for this year's election. The committee members are: Carl Fazio, Joe Falotico, Betty Terrell-Cruz, Terri Darling and Gail Phillips.
This Friday, April 24, we will be having a Town Meeting to discuss the By-Laws and Rules and Regulations. If you haven't gotten a copy yet please pick one up at the office and read through it, if there are any questions or comments this Friday at 7:00pm is the time and the clubhouse is the place! Mike Gillen is going to arrange with the Pocono Mountain Regional Police to have a Stranger Danger seminar for the community we would especially like to see the children of the community attend with their parents in light of recent events.
The really disturbing part of today's meeting was the Treasurer's Report, the collection rate so far this year is only at 71% which is off by 8% from last year. It looks like we are going to have to do whatever it takes to try to get the funds for the year in.
We will be allowing yard sales within the community in June, July, and August. The first weekend of each month will be for the Carbon County side and the third weekend for Monroe County. Speaking of Monroe County they are having bulk cleanup days on May 15, 16, 17 and 18.
Who will quit next month stay tune!
